David W. Solomons

Turning Points (Querflöte + Gitarre) - Noten Download PDF

The guitar part begins with the "Soliloquy" *
which the flute accompanies with its own little lament.

The flute begins to develop ideas of its own at various turning points and cajoles
the guitar into more extravert expressions.

The two instruments go though a series of mood swings
but the piece remains faithful to the central E around which everything turns.

The composition was originally a song about conversion -
which gives even more significance to the title -
and the composer´s thoughts about the effects of this conversion,
as they developed over several decades from the age of 21 to 56,
can be glimpsed from the way in which the flute varies the tune throughout.

The original words of the song belong to the trash-can of student enthusiasm,
but the melody is all and rises phoenix-like above the ashes of religious fantasy.

Note:
*"Soliloquy" is also available as a guitar solo from Editions de la Fabrique Musique
