I. A Charming Upbringing
II. Unattainable Things
III. Periodic Abasements and Contrition
Sonata for Clarinet and Piano (1996, rev. 1997) is dedicated to clarinetist Robert Blake who
gave many performances of this work with the composer.
The work is in three movements. The first is a joyous fanfare of anticipation. The second is
an enigmatic meditation -- with a simple song tucked in the middle. The third is a somewhat
violent dance that yields to a bright conclusion.
