Kahlenberg (2005) for solo piano (young performers) is dedicated to
Elisabeth Carolyn Parker. It is a single movement meditation for solo
piano, inspired by the mountain Kahlenberg, at the edge of the Vienna
Woods outside of Vienna, Austria.
The work combines atmospheric figurations and patterns with simple
monodic melodies that emerge from the texture. The piano pedal provides
blurring of sound. A very still, chorale section is surrounded by the two
similar outer sections. The piece dies away to nothingness at the end.
